Vinny Appice - Ronnie James Dio - Geoff Nicholls join Tony Iommi And Geezer Butler for the Heaven and Hell / Mob Rules Era
5-?-1980 Hammersmith Odeon, London, England PRO@@@@
Neon Knights, Die Young.
These were music videos made during a day's soundcheck. The band mimed to playback but a few shots were from when bits of the actual concert was filmed. On the Story Vol.2 VHS/DVD the credits read 'Filmed at The Rainbow Theatre in London.' This has to be false because Sabbath had not played at The Rainbow since 1973! Unless this was a special shoot of some sort but it seems unlikley they would go out of the way to film just a view things. Plus Hammersmith is a better equipped place for a camera crew. 4 shows at the Hammersmith were played between the 7th and 10th of May 1980. So I'd say these come from these dates. The 8th the show was pro recorded because COTS is on the b-side of Neon Knights single. In an 1983 interview with the band they said that Lyndsey Clennell (who later made videos for Zero The Hero and Trashed in 1983) directed these videos. At the end of Neon Knights there is undubbed live footage of the band saying goodnight so I wonder is there more? Well these are easy to find on youtube or on the Story Vol.2 VHS/DVD.

War Pigs, Neon Knights, N.I.B, Iron Man, Tony Iommi’s Guitar Solo (includes Orchid), Paranoid, Heaven And Hell, Die Young.
This is known thoroughly as 'Black And Blue' This was filmed along with Blue Oyster Cult for what used to be 'After Midnite' specials at drive in movie theaters. Also it had a very limited BETA/VHS release. So needless to say this was uber-rare untill 2002 when a Brazilian company produced copies of this. Now its easy to find and is on youtube too. And as always its possible that each band's entire concert was filmed and is in a vault somewhere. People old enough to have seen his in the drive ins say Sabbath also did Black Sabbath & COTG. I do have more info on this coming soon!
11-?-1980 Australian TV Interview PRO/TV@
TV interview with Ronnie, Geezer & Vinny that last 5 minutes. Geezer discusses a hand injury during the Japan tour and that the doctor didn't do a good job there. The picture on this is not fussy but the coloring is too loud. If you watch this on TV turn your color down to make this look better.
12-6-1980 Don Kirshner's Rock Concert Pro@
Heaven And Hell, Die Young, Neon Knights.
Thierry Bauwens has commented on bootleg.uk.org and sabbathliveproject that this is NOT from Black And Blue but another film. But historicfilms.com which has every DKRC in its database doesn't show this. Here's what one person Gary Brines on Bootleg.org.uk said. Regarding that 12/06/80 Don Kirshner broadcast, I saw it that very night! It was either a Friday or Saturday, 'cause I came home late (baked as usual for those days) and just idly turned on the TV. I wasn't even looking for the Kirshner show, because it never seemed to feature any bands that I was really into. So I went through the channels (there were only about twelve in those days) and WHOA!!! There was SABBATH jamming away! Unfortunately, I didn't have a VCR back then, and by the time I attempted to connect my dad's audio tape deck to the TV, the show was essentially over.“ "It's been a long time, but I remember the performance was definitely recorded live, at what appeared to be a regular concert. I've never seen the BLACK AND BLUE video, but I'd always assumed that it and this Kirshner footage were one and the same. Come to think of it, I think Blue Oyster Cult was featured that night, too. I only caught two or three SABBATH songs, one of which was definitely Die Young. I can't remember the others, but I think Neon Knights was one.” “I have two main memories of this broadcast: visually, Vinny Appice didn't really fit the band's image yet. I didn't even know who he was, as I hadn't yet heard about Bill Ward's departure. Also, the performance sounded a bit ragged. Vinny didn't seem completely in-sync with the band, and Tony wasn't his sharpest either. That's what I remember, anyway, but I only saw and heard this show once, twenty-two years ago, and after doing the THC thing earlier that night! So I could be wrong about the performance aspects. I'm hoping that when I see the BLACK AND BLUE disc next month, I'll be able to "confirm" (by memory, anyway) that it's the same show that Kirshner aired.”
From what he said about BOC and such this seems like a broadcast of BNB. He never said anything else about this????????

War Pigs Neon Knights, N.I.B., Children Of The Sea, Sweet Leaf, Lady Evil, Black Sabbath, Heaven And Hell, Iron Man, Die Young, Paranoid.
Not a great film but is the most complete film that we have from the Heaven And Hell tour. Filmed right of center of the balcony. So we see with an unobstructed view of the entire stage. On N.I.B Dio introduces the song as 'Sweat Leaf'.
1-2-1982 Hammersmith Odeon, London, England AUD@
Neon Knights, N.I.B, Children Of The Sea, Country Girl, Black Sabbath, War Pigs, Slipping Away, Iron Man, The Mob Rules, Paranoid, Voodoo.
An incomplete audience recording with a lot of cuts during the songs. Heaven And Hell is missing except for the tail end on Paranoid. This is shot from the left side but we see the entire stage. What this lacks in quality it makes it up in its rarity. The running time is about 57 minutes. The best version of this is an excellent fan authored that contains two additional audio tracks in Dolby 2.0 AND 4.1 surround sound. In addition to the original camera audio it utilized :
Cedar Rapids, Iowa 3-15-1982:
Neon Knights, N.I.B., Children Of The Sea, Black Sabbath.
Hammersmith Odeon, London, England 12-31-1981:
Country Girl.
City Hall, Newcastle, U.K. 1-7-1982:
War Pigs, Slipping Away, Iron Man, Mob Rules, Heaven And Hell, Paranoid, Voodoo.
The editor matched the film with these better quality audience audio recordings. He/she came really close to matching perfectly.

Along with the 'Livevil' album there was suppose to be an Concert VHS. Unfortunately it was shelved after the Dio/Appice/Iommi/Butler line-up split up. After all these years only 30 minutes of this have been found. Casey Films filmed the shows and there is an itnerary sheet on these shows. The shows were covered with 5 to 9 cameras per song. There are over 30 reels of 16mm film containing over 13 hours of footage and a 60-minute promo reel on videocassette for the 85 minutes of material. Now where did they go is the question. The supposed owner gave out the story that goes when the band broke up the masters were deleted but some was saved from total death by an employee of Casey Films. Years ago when the films was first bought 2 reels were transferred to VHS. A copy of that cassette and the promo reel were sold to a Black Sabbath collector. The same 2 reels on VHS were later sold for over $700 to another collector. Those 2 reels have emerged and are now on youtube. Where the rest is or is the above story true? (More of this footage available on youtube)
